MacDonald's may be crass American commercialism incarnate, but it's cheap and relatively edible. Fuck those hippies. Which opens another question: why must we (as in "thinkers") feel ashamed to be American? Can't I enjoy processed food without the risk of hypocrisy? Fast food is no good, this is a fact I'll not dispute, but it is a purely American invention.
"Open up penis!"
MacDonald's creates jobs and keeps the stock market alive. One could say the same thing about Marlboro, however. In their ow respects, cigarettes and fast food are both addictive substances which hold the potential for killing their consumers. The subtle difference between the two is this - one cannot work off cancer; a lap around the track won't repair a blackened lung. There are no calories in a cigarette, only death. Inversely, the 'in-crowd' aren't eating cheeseburgers in corduroys and tweed vests, are they?
